Our Impact

Opportunities & Impact

GYPAT has made a notable impact on smallholder farmers in South Sudan, strengthening the resilience of over20000 farmers to climate change at the same time improving their livelihoods. Our market linkage programs have provided farmers with access to fair pricing for their produce, increasing their household incomes and reducing reliance on middlemen. For instance, farmers utilizing our aggregation centers and value-addition services have experienced an average 30% income increase. Our post-harvest management solutions, including enhanced storage facilities, have reduced post-harvest losses by 40%, allowing more produce to reach the market. The maize floating farms include 20,000 farmers with an estimated 1.2 metric tons of maize per season, the total output amount to 24,000 metric tons. With a market price of $300 per metric ton, this generates approximately $7.2 million in revenue for the farmers collectively. GYPAT creates at least 80,000 direct jobs, as each farmer employs four assistants, and many more indirect jobs through farm activities

Market Linkages

At Gezira Young People Agribusiness Trust (GYPAT), aggregation is at the heart of how we empower smallholder farmers in South Sudan. Through floating farms and strategically located aggregation centers, we provide farmers with access to new farming methods,  processing, storage, and market linkages, enabling them to access new ways of farming and offering fairer incomes from their farm products. The aggregation center provide essential storage facilities that reduce post-harvest losses as well as offer opportunities for value addition, including maize flour processing, a milestone as the first of its kind in the country. For many smallholder farmers, particularly women and young people in rural South Sudan, accessing larger markets and fair prices has long been a challenge. Connecting farmers to markets through the aggregation centers helps them negotiate better terms for their produce, ensuring they earn a fair share for their hard work.

Employment Opportunities

GYPAT aims to create employment for over 500 youth in the next five years through initiatives in farming, agro-processing, and market linkages. By training and employing young people in these areas, we will equip them with practical skills in crop production, food processing, and distribution. These roles will contribute directly to the SDG goals of Decent Work (Goal 8) and Zero Hunger (Goal 2) by improving local food security and providing sustainable income opportunities for the youth. Our efforts will not only address unemployment but also support the growth of a resilient and thriving local agricultural economy.

Community Engagement

GYPAT engages communities by actively involving them in farming and agro-processing initiatives. Through training and collaborative efforts, we empower youth and local members, ensuring our programs address their needs and foster sustainable development. This approach builds trust, ownership, and long-term impact.

Our Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

GYPAT contributes to several SDGs, including SDG 2: Zero Hunger by improving local food security through sustainable agriculture and food processing. It supports SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by creating employment for over 500 youth, providing stable income and skill development. Through sustainable farming practices, GYPAT aligns with SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, while promoting climate-resilient techniques that support SDG 13: Climate Action. Additionally, through offering youth employment opportunities, GYPAT helps reduce poverty, contributing to SDG 1: No Poverty.
