Gezira Young People Agribusiness Trust Company Limited (GYPAT)
Desperate families facing severe hunger are still wading through crocodile-infested waters, searching for waterlilies

Our Story
Gezira Young People Agribusiness Trust Company Limited (GYPAT), was formed in 2012 and was fully incorporated in 2018 under company registration act 2012. GYPAT was established to champion food security and improve the livelihoods of maize growers and the smallholder farmers in South Sudan through enhanced market linkages. We work in agribusiness, with a broader focus on climate change. Currently we are engaged in the maize value chain, supporting maize growers in the most rural part of South Sudan. We run an aggregation center that serves as a direct market linkage to farmers who do not otherwise have access to market. South Sudan faces acute hunger, worsened by climate shocks, with over 80% of its population relying on rain-fed farming. Erratic rainfall, droughts, and flooding displacing 1.7 million people and submerging farmlands in 2021 have left nearly 7.8 million people food-insecure annually (WFP). Desperate families wade through crocodile-infested waters for wild food like waterlilies.
